The Triumphant Truck That Stands the Test of Time: The 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs Ford F-150

From the salesfloor to the street, I think we can all agree that a hearty truck you can count on is what matters most. At Capitol Chevrolet Montgomery, we're here to show you what makes the 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 eclipse the Ford F-150 in one fell swoop.

The Silverado 1500 is Crafted to Endure

Whether cruising along I-85 or maneuvering through Talladega National Forest, it's important that the design of your truck is ergonomic and agreeable. Each cab size of the Silverado 1500 is larger than its respective F-150 counterpart by a few crucial inches. Moreover, the Silverado 1500 Crew Cab shortbed spans larger than that of the F-150 SuperCrew. The Chevy even offers a CornerStep as standard, allowing you to get in and out of the cargo area with ease (the Ford charges extra for its Tailgate Step).

The all-new aluminum body of the Ford F-150 doesn't help its case; although this lightweight design tactic enhances efficiency by a margin, it reduces its overall durability and increases repair costs. The standard steel of the Silverado 1500 will keep you out of the body shop longer, and that's something we can all get behind.

The Truck That Keeps Trucking On

The standard Vortecâ„¢ 6.0-liter V8 engine in the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is set up for quicker acceleration than the 5.0-liter V8 in the Ford variant. Overall, it accelerates from 0-60 mph in just six seconds flat. When it comes time to stop, the Chevy does so in the same mileage at just 127 feet (that's 13 whole feet shorter than the Ford truck).

The Silverado 1500 comes with speed-sensitive variable-assist power steering, making parking and cruising as seamless as possible; no similar feature is available in the F-150. To add to it, most cab sizes of the Silverado 1500 best the F-150 in payload and towing. The Chevy's minimum towing capacity is 5,500 pounds while the Ford starts at just 5,000. As you make your way through your Montgomery duties, carry up to 1,890 pounds of gear in the bed of the Silverado 1500 (as opposed to a maximum 1,840 pounds in the F-150).
