Plan for Safety on the Highway

If you find yourself in a roadside emergency while you are driving on the highway, it is important to make sure you keep yourself and your passengers safe. Below are two tips from our Chevrolet service team on how to handle a roadside emergency that occurs on the highway.

  • Tire Blow Out - If you are driving down the highway and you experience a tire blow out that leads to a roadside emergency, stay calm and gently drive your car to a safe place on the side of the road. It is important not to worry about driving on the tire rim, as it is more important to make sure you are in a safe place before exiting your vehicle. A tire rim is a lot cheaper and easier to replace than your life.
  • Leave The Car - If you experience a roadside emergency while driving on the highway that disables your car and you are not able to get your car to the side of the road, it is important to take care of your personal safety. In this situation, you will need to make sure you turn on your hazard lights and put out flares or emergency triangles if possible to warn other drivers that your car is disabled. Then you need to get as far away from your car as safely possible in case a careless driver hits your car.
